SHELLEY
HERON
In 1985, Shelley
Heron became a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the
Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings and is currently a member of
Lakewinds, a Canadian based woodwind octet. Prior to joining the
DSO, she held the position of Principal Oboe with Orchestra London
Canada. Shelley graduated from the University of Toronto with a
Bachelor of Music in Performance and received her Master of Music
in Performance from the University of Western Ontario. Her primary
oboe teachers have been Jonathan Dlouhy, John Mack (Cleveland Orchestra)
and Richard Killmer (Eastman School of Music).
As well as
performing regularly with the DSO, Shelley continues to be active
as a recitalist and clinician. Shelley led a series of master classes
at the International Festival of Youth Orchestras and Wind Ensembles
at Banff, Alberta, has conducted reed making classes at Michigan
State University, taught at the University of Michigan and the University
of Western Ontario and maintains a private studio at her home in
Sarnia, Ontario where she resides with her husband, Ron George,
principal horn of Orchestra London.
